"Bessie in Bloom"

There’s something timeless and comforting about the sight of a cow in a field—especially when that field is sprinkled with wildflowers and the sun casts a golden glow over everything. That was the inspiration behind my newest glass art piece: Bessie in Bloom.

Bessie is a black and white cow with soulful eyes and a gentle presence. She’s the kind of cow that doesn’t just graze—she belongs in the landscape, as if she knows the field was made just for her. During a recent drive through the countryside, I spotted her standing serenely amid a burst of color—yellow and pink—flowers dancing around her hooves. It was like a scene out of a movie: peaceful, playful, and utterly joyful.
As often happens with inspiration that image stayed with me and found its way into my hands and heart in my art studio. The result is a vibrant glass art piece that captures Bessie in her element—framed by blooms, caught in a moment of stillness and grace.
Every piece of glass chosen echos the colors of that day: the crisp contrast of her black and white coat, the soft hues of meadow flowers. It’s a celebration of rural charm, nature’s palette, and the delight of noticing the beauty in the ordinary.
Bessie now lives forever in glass, and she makes me smile every time I see her. I hope she brings a little bit of joy and whimsy to you, too.
