A Little Glass, a Little History & a Whole Lot of Puppy Love 🐾

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever’s story starts with quite an adventure! In 1807, two puppies named Sailor and Canton were rescued from a ship in distress off the Maryland coast. These talented water dogs became the foundation of the breed we affectionately call the Chessie. Their descendants helped retrieve waterfowl from the chilly waters of the Chesapeake Bay—a big job for some remarkable doggies!

My sister Susan is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever lover, and her visit to Colorado Springs for the National Specialty inspired me to create this sweet little glass art piece for CrackNCreate.

It’s my sparkling tribute to a breed with an adventurous beginning—and a lovely reminder of sister time and our shared love of dogs. From the bay to my art table, this little Chessie made quite a splash! šŸ’›
